Belly Dance Artistry by Shahina

Henna: The Art of Mehndi

Have you ever thought about getting a tattoo, but were concerned that you wouldn't like it later on? Mehndi, or henna, is the perfect solution. Mehndi is painless and temporary, so you can be as daring as you like, knowing that it will be gone in a week or two.

Henna patterns on a belly dancer can be very striking and add an air of authenticity if properly done. Designs can be simple or very elaborate, small and inconspicuous or big and bold.

Mehndi is from the culture of India, and is traditionally used to decorate the hands and feet of a bride in preparation for her wedding. Tradition says that the longer the tattoos last the happier the marriage will be! Henna also has roots in North Africa, Arabia, and Persia.

Henna Party
Each summer Shahina conducts a at her studio where you can learn to apply henna to others and/or have henna applied to yourself, and receive instruction in how to make your designs last as long as possible. The workshop is for women only, so we can apply henna anywhere we want to. Check Shahina's calendar for the date of any upcoming henna parties.
