Costume and Performance Preferences

Whether a bellygram or a full performance, Shahina will customize her dance styles, movements, music, and appearance to suit your preferences and tastes. Do you enjoy the classic cabaret or harem dancer look? Or is a more reserved, folkloric style  appropriate? What is appropriate in Chicago may not be suitable for Wheaton.

Shahina will also make suggestions based upon her extensive performance experience. For example, a daytime performance usually entails a more conservative costume than a late-night event. Likewise, a church event should be more reserved than a bachelor party!

Costume Options
Do you have a preference for costume color? If you see a costume on this website that you particularly like Shahina will try to comply. Costumes currently available:

  • Fairy Queen
    Very regal looking. White with gold beads, pearls and Swarovski crystals. This is the latest in cabaret costumes from Egypt, and is the preferred costume for wedding performances.

  • Ravishing Red
    Heavily beaded with gold, silver and black. This costume may be worn with a full silk skirt in varying red tones on sunset colors of yellow to red.

  • Black Iris
    A more reserved costume with long sleeves and fitted skirt, with glittering iris beads and accents of blue and purple.

  • Turkish Turquoise
    This bra and belt are entirely hand beaded with turquoise and gold glass beads, with accents of raspberry pearls and Czech crystal. Can be worn with a fitted skirt, beaded to match, or with a full silk skirt in turquoise or deep raspberry.

  • Orchid Dreams
    A very glitzy Egyptian cabaret set, dripping with rhinestones, crystals, and silver beads. A full silk skirt in iridescent orchard and burnout velvet give a more classic look, or a lavender fitted skirt with white lace and rhinestones give a more modern flair.

  • Sparkling Saidi
    For presentations at schools a covered midriff is often preferred. This dress fills the bill perfectly. It is fitted throughout the torso, with rhinestones and silver beading at the bust and hips. Black with accents of silver, fuchsia, red and purple. It may be worn with or without long flared sleeves.

  • Artsy Asymmetry
    A truly unique costume, hand painted by Shahina in blues and purples with fuchsia silk insets and elaborate beadwork.

  • Luscious Leopard
    A one of a kind Shahina original draped with rhinestones and art glass beads on leopard print and black velvet. Optional midsection can cover midriff if desired.

  • Santa Baby
    A novelty costume with a Santa's helper theme for holiday season parties. Red velvet with real fur trim and rhinestones.

Rest assured, no matter what your event, Shahina's dance is always a tastefully executed, professional artistic performance by a skilled belly dancer and entertainer and suitable for all audiences. They are not a "gag" by a stripper or by a woman in a cheap halloween costume.

Veils and Wings
Shahina is famous for her custom-dyed silk skirts and veils. If you see a silk pattern on this website that particularly strikes your fancy Shahina may be able to combine it with one of her costumes to achieve a unique look just for your event!

Please remember that adequate space must be allowed if Shahina is to employ veils in her dance. Do you have lots of space, such as a full stage, or an outdoor setting? Ask Shahina about using Isis wings for a truly dramatic effect.

Styles of Music and Dance
A bellygram is usually comprised of about three numbers. A full performance set will contain as much music as is required to fit your entertainment needs.

Do you prefer more classical Egyptian music, or more contemporary popular Middle Eastern music? If you are well versed in the genre you may wish to specify a particular recording.

Perhaps you are not familiar with Eastern musical styles. If you have an idea of what style of music your guest(s) usually listen to (rock, jazz, classical, new age, etc) Shahina can take this information into consideration and make an educated judgment.

How about Shahina dancing to the accompaniment of a live drummer or even a full orchestra? If your budget allows, consult Shahina to explore these options.
