Egypt Foreign Belly Dancer Controversy
Foreign dancers have long been a mainstay in Egypt, the capitol of belly dance. In late 2003 the Egyptian Labor and Emigration Affairs Ministry announced that,
effective 2004, only Egyptian nationals would be allowed to perform belly dance publicly. The ban was rescinded later in the year, but
the controversy lives on.
