What To Wear To Belly Dance Class
The preferred attire for Middle Eastern dance classes
at Shahina's Studio are form fitting workout clothes.
This means fitted leggings, shorts, tank top, sports bra, etc. The purpose of form fitting clothing is to allow us both to
see how you are moving. If I can't see the movements of isolated body parts it is much more difficult for me to help you.
Many women are uncomfortable with their bodies when they first come to me and are inclined to cover up. Many of the movements
I teach are very subtle, and will be lost if you are hiding your body beneath baggy clothes.
As we work together, you will quickly come to appreciate seeing your own progress, watching the definition appear, as your
body steadily changes shape.
This means no sweat shirts, sweat pants, jeans, warm-up suits or baggy tee-shirts.
As for footwear, bring dance thongs, or dance in bare feet as I do. Stocking feet are too slippery on the tile floor of my
dance studio.
If you are an experienced dancer who already owns a silk veil and hip scarf,
bring them to class. If you don't have a scarf or veil I keep extras on hand for my beginning students. You will do better to
wait until you've learned some moves before purchasing these belly dance accessories.
I have a water cooler handy, but you may also wish to bring a water bottle and/or a towel. We are going to sweat!
